Featured on MilbrookRoundTable.com is an interesting profile of local playwright and performer Barbara Rankin - Who authored The Princess of the Nile which was performed at the Center in Rhinebeck just a few weeks ago in August.
"After starting a performing career in Buffalo, her hometown, Barbara Rankin went on to dance professionally and act in commercials and soap operas. But it was only after settling down in the Hudson Valley, did the Syracuse University graduate realize her calling in composing and writing children's musicals.
Hot off the heels of her latest showing of "Princess of the Nile," Rankin has published the first edition of her newsletter, "Inside the Music Room," to chronicle the play that she has worked on since 1994.
Rankin, who has lived in Millbrook for 23 years, was happy about the latest incarnation of her Egyptian children's play. The story is set in ancient Egypt, and is all about mystery. After a pair of golden slippers was stolen, the play turns into a search with the destiny of Egypt. Rankin said it is her interpretation of Cinderella, retold with an exciting cast of characters."
