What are your Dream Roles?

I think everyone has roles that they dream of playing, regardless of if they are "right" (read typical type) for the role or not. I know some on my list are a stretch - mainly because leading ladies are usually not 6ft tall. These are in no particular order and are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I'd love to play:
Miss Hannigan in Annie
Mama Morton in Chicago
Velma in Chicago
Annie in Annie Get your Gun
Vera Charles in Mame
Marguerite in The Scarlet Pimpernel

Tell me which roles you dream of playing. I'd love to hear.

Great question, and one that a lot of theatre folk seem to ask one another in between productions. :)

I'm fortunate in that I've already played one of my dream roles -- Chief Bromden in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." But there are a few others I'd love to be part of.

Nicely-Nicely Johnson in "Guys and Dolls" tops that list though. The guy sings in a trio for "Fugue for Tinhorns," has a duet in "Guys and Dolls" and sings a solo, backed up by the rest of the cast, in "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat." He walks on, hits a few home runs, and he's off. And what terrific songs!

On a contemporary note, I'd love to play Carl in Steven Dietz' "Lonely Planet." The extremes this man has to go through and the way his mind works -- just incredibly detailed and reasoned. And he has some of the most amazing monologues ever.

So then, a classic and a contemporary. :) I'd have more to suggest if I weren't so doggone pooped right now.

What a fun topic! I'm going with Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl".

Nicely-Nicely Johnson is a great role! and a fun one - I played General Cartwright in G&D. Rockin' the Boat is one of my favorite numbers from the show.

Kat - that would be a great role for you!

Thank you both for sharing!
