In summary, it was a predictable Tony awards. I really enjoyed many of the musical numbers from current shows. It's all over for another year - It will be interesting to see if some of the shows that have been slowing in the ticket sales will rebound with renewed interest.
11:00 - Best Musical ... Spring Awakening - Not surprising.
10:45 - Getting down to the last of the awards ... Best Actor & Actress in a Musical and Best Musical. But First - Fantasia performing from The Color Purple - Strong vocal performance. Just have Best Musical left .... the suspense ....
10:30 - Best Play ... Coast of Utopia ... no surprise there. Oooh a performance from Spring Awakening ... very good. Looks like an interesting show - I'll have to put it on my list of shows to see.
10:17 - Back to the Tony's with a performance from Jersey Boys ... What a night ... not all that great. They introduced a synopsis of the "Creative" Tony awards (the ones only viewable on the webcast) Then a performance from Grey Gardens - which was okay....
10:00 - Julie White of The little dog who laughed walked away with best leading actress in a play.
9:45 - Best Play Medley followed by the awards for Best Revival of a Play - Journey's End, interesting bit of information that the play has never been a commercial success in over 100 years.
9:35 - Notice how many theater related commercials there are? It's interesting to see what advertisers think appeals to Tony awards viewers. I don't mind seeing the spots on the different shows - hopefully soon I'll be able to take in one of the new shows.
9:30 - Musicals of the Season Medley ... Best Director of a Musical, Michael Mayer - he mentions sound designers and how they should have a Tony award - good! Finishing up with a performance from Company ... strong vocally, but not terribly interesting to watch. Yawn.
9:15 - Off with the Plays of the season medley ... On to Best Direction of a play ... another one for Coast of Utopia.
9:00 - Another for Spring Awakening - this time Choreography. The Coast of Utopia wins another Tony - Best featured Actress in a play Jennifer Ehle? And now Mary Poppins performance ... Wow, I enjoyed that very much - great tapping for "step in time".
8:40 - Best Performance By a Featured Actress in a Musical went to Mary Louise Wilson, Grey Gardens and the 110 in the shade performance ... what a voice!
8:00 - The start of the Tony telecast .... So far we've had no surprises. After the first Commercial we had a wonderful performance from the new musical Curtains. Spring Awakening has several Tony Awards already ... no surprises there.
7:30 - Watching the Tony Creative Arts awards ... it's a shame that these very essential and under appreciated designers are regulated to a webcast. Because let's face it, without Best Scenic Design of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Play, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Orchestrations.
You'd be left with a naked Actor on a Blank stage, with no music or sound, in the dark. Yeah, not terribly interesting for the audience.

Fun read, Erica! I agree with you on the lack of a sound design award. There really should be a category for it.
Erica, did you hear the news that Tonys will begin awarding for sound design next year? Well done!
