Theater & Arts related Camps for Kids this Summer in the Hudson valley

Ah the lazy days of summer are fast approaching. School will end and the kids will have hours of free time - let your little aspiring thespian exercise those theater skills by attending one of the many theater (and arts) related summer camps in the Mid Hudson Valley.

KIDS ON STAGE PERFORMANCE
Ages 10 to 15 Tuition: $500.00 for 3 weeks

July 16-August 3; Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Performances Sat. August 4 & Sat. Aug. 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Kids ages 10 to 15 learn acting, voice and stagecraft as they prepare for a production of the classic fairytale, CINDERELLA. Directed by Diana di Grandi, director/producer of Beauty and the Beast and Oklahoma. Please note: Students must be committed to attend all workshop classes and all performances in order to register.


KIDS ON STAGE INTERMEDIATE
(two sessions) Ages 7 to 10 Tuition: $200.00 per week
A one-week program that teaches basic stagecraft and scene study through exercises and theater games. Includes a presentation to family members on Friday afternoon.

Intermediate 1: August 20 to 24, Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. FULL - Extra Session Added 9-1

TEENS ON STAGE
Ages 14 to 18 Tuition: $200.00 for 1 week

A wonderful opportunity for students ages 15 to 18 to refine their skills through scene study techniques and character development. Best for those who have had some stage experience. Instructor: Lou Trapani.


STAGE COMBAT
Ages 12 & up Tuition: $200.00 for 1 week
July 2- 6; Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Pirates of The CENTER! Learn to swash and buckle just like Johnny Depp in this one-week stage combat course that covers basic stage (dramatic) combat and safety procedures. Taught by Marcus D. Gregio, an alumnus of Shakespeare's Globe in London, and an active member of the Society of American Fight Directors who has trained with the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat and the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.

LITTLE KIDS ON STAGE (four sessions) Ages 5 to 7

A lighthearted approach to learning stagecraft. Kids will dance, sing, play games and perform a short presentation on Friday afternoon for family and friends. PLEASE NOTE: To accommodate more families, we are offering 2 sessions each week One group will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and another from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Improv Comedy Workshop Camp

ages 11-16

No scripts, just fun and imagination. You will work on skits and characterizations

off the cuff ” learning how to structure and perform improvisational

skits and create improvisational characters using your

imagination and creativity. The workshop will end with the staging of an

improvisational comedy show starring the campers as “The Off the Cuff

Players” performing ala “Whose Line Is It Anyway” at 1 pm on Friday.

All friends, family members and invited guests may not only attend the

performance but they will also play an interactive part in the show.

Note: No prior stage or acting experience required.

Lunch: Please bring a snack and lunch that require no refrigeration.

Educational Leader: S. Ben Sanguedolce has 14 years experience in

running an interactive murder mystery improvisational troupe as writer,

producer, director and actor. He has over 34 years in professional theater

as an actor, producer and director working on the New York Stage,

Summer Stock and Regional Theater.

Circus Theatricks Camp

ages 7-14

Back-by-Popular Demand! Come to this action packed camp to explore

the circus arts! You will be introduced to the art and skill of

juggling, tumbling, clowning, partner acrobatics,

and much more. The highlight of the week will

be when you and your fellow campers perform

your newly acquired talents for friends and

family.

Lunch: Please bring a lunch that requires no refrigeration.

Educational Leader: Sean patrick fagan has

been entertaining and educating children of all

ages for ten years and counting. He has worked for some of the premiere

children’s entertainment organizations in the world including Ringling

Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus, Walt Disney Inc., Nickelodeon Jr. Television

and Scholastic’s Magic School Bus Live. He has street performed in

Holland, toured the U.S. and performed internationally in Singapore. Mr.

Fagan has a “fun arts” degree from Ringling’s Clown College.

Music Camp for Beginners

ages 7-11

This camp is designed to familiarize you with the fundamentals of music

and prepare you for a possible future as a music performer during

grade school. During the two-week session, you will learn rhythm, music

notation and basic music theory, such as clefs and note values, as well

as explore names of classical composers and music. You will be able

to explore various music genres, such as Irish Folk and Jazz, as well as

learn about the various instruments. Through these concepts, you will

have the opportunity to express yourself through fun and interactive

activities.

Lunch: Please bring a lunch that requires no refrigeration and a snack.

Educational Leader & Music Director: Naomi Williams graduated

from Ithaca College School of Music, and has a Bachelor’s Degree in

Music Composition with a concentration in Double Bass. She is currently

pursuing graduate studies at a number of music conservatories in

Boston. Ms. Williams enjoys teaching music and looks forward to being

a mentor for children who hope to pursue a career in music.

Theater Workshop Camp

ages 11-16

You will learn and hone your theater skills including, stage technique,

developing a character through scripted material, improvisation, and

stage movement. This will culminate with a stage performance putting

to use the techniques covered in the camp. The performance, which

starts at 1 pm on Friday, will consist of scenes from various plays including

original scripts where you will have no pre-conceived character on

which to base your interpretation.

Note: No prior stage or acting experience required.

Lunch: Please bring a snack and lunch that require no

refrigeration.

Educational Leader: S. Ben Sanguedolce is a professional

producer, director and actor with more than

30 years experience working on the New York Stage,

Summer Stock, and Regional Theatre, 14 years experience

in running an interactive murder mystery improvisational troupe,

over 10 years experience teaching a one-on-one professional acting

workshop, and experience in heading up a High School Drama Club as

acting coach and director.

Modern Jazz Theater Dance Camp

ages 12-17

Designed for those who want to get a great stretch and tone workout

through floor technique. Warm up thoroughly and be energized with

great music while learning modern jazz dance steps and technique. Come

prepared to sweat! Each day will begin with an extensive warm up,

stretch & tone, and across the floor technique. The camp will end each

day with a piece of choreography to get the feel of performing, gain

confidence and expression through movement and have a great time in

the process!

Dress: Wear jazz shoes or sneakers and loose clothing.

Educational Leader: myrna Rivera has performed professionally in numerous

New York City dance companies including Puerto Rican Dance

Theater, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New Dance Group, and

others. She is currently involved with a number of Ulster County dance

groups performing and teaching all over the county.

Expressive Arts & Crafts Camp

ages 6-8

In this two-week camp, you will explore your imagination and creativity

through the expressive arts. You will be encouraged to express your

individuality through art, movement and nature. Journal making, nature

walks, painting, writing, collage, and clay will be used to create things

meaningful to you, while expanding your artistic knowledge.

Dress: Please wear old clothes or bring a smock and topical insect

repellent.

Lunch: Please bring a snack and lunch that require no refrigeration.

Educational Leader: Eleana pellegrino is a New York State Certified

Art Educator with a Master of Arts in Painting and Drawing. Ms. Pellegrino

is a Visual Arts Teacher at The School at Columbia University in

NYC. She studies and practices art as a way of personal growth and

self-expression.

Educational Assistant: andrea Siclare-Colantuoni has her Masters in

Environmental Education from SUNY New Paltz and is teaching at the

Head Start Program in Kingston, NY.
